Job Description

Are you a highly skilled and meticulous Operating Room Scrub Tech looking to make a significant impact in a fast-paced and rewarding environment? Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated Full-Time OR Scrub Tech to join our exceptional surgical team in Burnaby, British Columbia. This vital role is at the heart of our operating suite, directly contributing to successful surgical outcomes and ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and care.

As an OR Scrub Tech, you will work closely with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesiologists, preparing and maintaining sterile fields, handling instruments, and anticipating the needs of the surgical team during various procedures. Your expertise will be crucial in a wide range of specialties, including general surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, and urology, among others. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain the sterile surgical field and instruments according to established policies and procedures.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team by passing instruments, supplies, and equipment efficiently and safely.
  • Perform accurate surgical counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments with the circulating nurse.
  • Assist with patient positioning, draping, and transferring as directed by the surgical team.
  • Maintain strict adherence to aseptic technique throughout surgical procedures.
  • Participate in the surgical time-out process to ensure correct patient, procedure, and site.
  • Handle specimens appropriately and accurately according to facility protocols.
  • Assist with the cleaning and restocking of the operating room post-procedure.
  • Collaborate effectively with all members of the surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and educational programs.

Required Skills

  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as an OR Scrub Tech in a hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sterile technique and surgical procedures.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift, and maneuver surgical equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with a variety of surgical specialties (e.g., orthopedics, general, vascular).
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) by the NBSTSA or equivalent.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning.
