Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior geologists in conducting field investigations, including soil and groundwater sampling, geological mapping, and borehole logging.
- Operate and maintain field equipment responsibly, ensuring calibration and proper usage.
- Accurately record and manage field data, ensuring compliance with project specifications and safety protocols.
- Support the compilation and preliminary analysis of geological data using various software tools.
- Contribute to the drafting of technical reports, figures, and maps under supervision.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety guidelines and site-specific safety plans.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to project planning discussions.
- Conduct literature reviews and research on specific geological and hydrogeological topics as needed.
- Communicate effectively with team members, clients, and subcontractors.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
- Demonstrated understanding of fundamental geological principles, including stratigraphy, sedimentology, hydrogeology, and geophysics.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
- Possession of a valid G-class driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Physical ability to perform fieldwork in various weather conditions and terrains, including lifting equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer, co-op, or internship experience in environmental consulting or a related field.
- Familiarity with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) or geological modeling software.
- Basic understanding of environmental regulations in Ontario.
- Health and Safety certifications (e.g., WHMIS, First Aid, confined space entry).
