Key Responsibilities

  • Research and verify facts for accuracy, ensuring all reporting meets high journalistic standards.
  • Conduct interviews with community members, local leaders, officials, and other relevant sources.
  • Write clear, concise, and engaging news articles, features, reports, and digital content.
  • Attend local community events, press conferences, and public meetings to gather information.
  • Collaborate effectively with the editorial team, sharing story ideas and receiving feedback.
  • Meet deadlines consistently while maintaining the quality and integrity of your work.
  • Adhere strictly to journalistic ethics, professional conduct, and company guidelines.
  • Potentially capture basic multimedia content (photos or short videos) to complement stories.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong research and information verification abilities.
  • Proficiency in conducting interviews and gathering compelling quotes.
  • Acute attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field.
  • Previous experience with student newspapers, university publications, blogs, or school projects.
  • Familiarity with Associated Press (AP) style guidelines.
  • Basic photography or videography skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Rutland and greater Kelowna area.
