Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and meticulous Medical Billing Specialist to join our dedicated administrative team at Kariba District Hospital. This pivotal role is essential for ensuring the accurate and timely submission of medical claims, maintaining robust financial health for the hospital, and ultimately supporting our mission to provide outstanding patient care. As a Medical Billing Specialist, you will be at the forefront of our revenue cycle, responsible for processing claims, managing denials, and collaborating with various departments to ensure seamless billing operations.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit clean claims to various insurance companies, government payers, and other third parties accurately and in a timely manner.
- Review and verify patient demographic and insurance information for accuracy and completeness.
- Monitor and resolve claim denials, rejections, and underpayments through appeals or corrections.
- Utilize medical coding systems (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) to ensure proper code assignment for diagnoses and procedures.
- Process patient payments, manage accounts receivable, and follow up on outstanding balances.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding their billing statements and payment options.
- Collaborate with clinical staff and other departments to obtain necessary documentation for billing purposes.
- Stay current with changes in healthcare regulations, coding guidelines, and insurance policies.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information and financial records.
- Generate and analyze billing reports to identify trends and areas for improvement in the revenue cycle.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in medical billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems
- In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding
- Strong understanding of insurance claim submission and denial management processes
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Medical Billing and Coding (e.g., CPC, CCS-P, CPB)
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field
- Experience with Zimbabwe's specific healthcare billing regulations and private medical aid schemes
- Bilingualism (English and a local language such as Shona or Ndebele)
