Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and experienced Greenhouse Supervisor with a specialized focus on plant monitoring to join our client’s innovative agricultural operations in Umoja, Nairobi. This pivotal role requires a keen eye for detail, a deep understanding of plant physiology, and a proactive approach to maintaining optimal growing conditions. You will be instrumental in overseeing daily greenhouse activities, with a particular emphasis on precise environmental control, pest and disease management, and the overall health and productivity of diverse plant species. Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily greenhouse operations, including planting, irrigation, fertilization, pest management, and harvesting activities.
  • Implement and maintain rigorous plant monitoring protocols to detect early signs of stress, disease, or nutrient deficiencies.
  • Operate and calibrate environmental control systems (e.g., temperature, humidity, ventilation, lighting) to optimize plant growth conditions.
  • Conduct regular inspections of plants for pests, diseases, and growth abnormalities, applying appropriate biological or chemical treatments as necessary and according to safety guidelines.
  • Train, mentor, and oversee a team of greenhouse technicians and workers, ensuring adherence to best practices and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of plant health, growth rates, environmental data, and treatment applications.
  • Manage inventory of seeds, growing media, fertilizers, pesticides, and other greenhouse supplies.
  • Collaborate with management to develop and implement improved cultivation strategies and sustainability initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant agricultural regulations and environmental protection standards.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to irrigation systems, greenhouse structures, and equipment, coordinating with maintenance as needed.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (3+ years) in greenhouse management and plant monitoring.
  • Strong knowledge of plant physiology, horticulture, and agronomy principles.
  • Proficiency in operating environmental control systems and monitoring equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience with integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.
  • Excellent observational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership and effective team supervision capabilities.
  • Robust problem-solving and decision-making skills in dynamic environments.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, analyze data, and generate comprehensive reports.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective team and stakeholder interaction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, Plant Science, or a closely related field.
  • Certification in pest management or advanced greenhouse operations.
  • Experience with hydroponic or aquaponic cultivation systems.
  • Familiarity with agricultural software for data analysis and reporting.
  • Knowledge of local Kenyan agricultural regulations and environmental standards.
  • Current First Aid and Safety certification.
