As a Mining Engineer, you will be instrumental in the planning, design, and execution of mining projects from inception to completion. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive mine planning, design, and scheduling for open-pit and/or underground operations.
- Perform geological and geotechnical analysis to assess ground conditions and stability, ensuring safe mining practices.
- Optimize mine layouts, ventilation systems, haul roads, and material handling systems to enhance efficiency and productivity.
- Develop and implement drilling, blasting, and excavation plans, adhering to safety regulations and environmental standards.
- Monitor and analyze operational data, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
- Prepare detailed engineering reports, feasibility studies, and cost estimates for new and ongoing projects.
- Collaborate with geologists, metallurgists, environmental specialists, and contractors to ensure integrated project execution.
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
- Utilize mining software for design, simulation, and analysis (e.g., MineSight, Surpac, AutoCAD Civil 3D).
- Participate in site visits and field inspections to monitor progress and address technical challenges.
- Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Alberta or eligibility for registration.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in mining operations or consulting.
- Proficiency in mining software such as MineSight, Surpac, Vulcan, or similar.
- Strong understanding of mine planning, design, and scheduling principles.
- Demonstrated knowledge of geotechnical analysis and ground control.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
- Proven ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience with both open-pit and underground mining methods.
- Familiarity with Alberta's regulatory environment for mining.
- Project management experience or PMP certification.
- Advanced skills in data analysis and reporting tools.
- Experience with mine ventilation design and simulation software.
