Job Description

Are you a skilled and compassionate Cook with a flair for creating wholesome, delicious meals? Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated Care Home Cook to join our warm and welcoming residential facility in Birmingham, England. In this vital role, you will be responsible for preparing and serving high-quality, nutritious meals for our beloved residents, catering to a variety of dietary needs and preferences. We are looking for someone who understands the importance of hygiene, safety, and nutritional balance in a care setting. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook a varied, nutritious, and attractive menu for residents, including main meals, snacks, and special dietary provisions (e.g., pureed, diabetic, gluten-free, vegetarian).
  • Ensure all meals are prepared to the highest standards of hygiene, taste, and presentation, adhering to food safety regulations (HACCP) at all times.
  • Manage kitchen stock, ordering supplies, monitoring inventory, and minimising waste effectively.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe kitchen environment, including equipment and storage areas.
  • Collaborate with the care team to understand and accommodate individual resident dietary needs, preferences, allergies, and cultural requirements.
  • Plan and cost menus, ensuring they are balanced, appealing, and within budget.
  • Supervise and mentor any junior kitchen staff, promoting best practices and teamwork.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of proven cooking experience, preferably within a care home, hospital, or similar catering environment.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Food Preparation and Cooking, or equivalent qualification.
  • Valid Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or 3).
  • Strong understanding of dietary requirements for the elderly and those with special needs.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Food Preparation and Cooking.
  • Experience in menu planning and budget management.
  • Knowledge of COSHH regulations and safe working practices.
