Job Description
Oxfam Zimbabwe is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Grant Writing Specialist to join our dynamic team. This pivotal role offers a remote option, allowing a qualified individual to contribute significantly to our mission from a location within Matabeleland South Province. As a Grant Writing Specialist, you will be instrumental in securing crucial funding that directly supports our humanitarian and development programs across Zimbabwe, with a particular focus on the unique challenges and opportunities within Matabeleland South. Your expertise will translate our on-the-ground impact and strategic objectives into compelling proposals for a diverse range of institutional and private donors.
This role demands a keen eye for detail, exceptional persuasive writing skills, and a deep understanding of the international development funding landscape. You will be responsible for researching funding opportunities, developing concept notes, writing full proposals, and preparing comprehensive reports that meet donor requirements and demonstrate program effectiveness. The successful candidate will work closely with program teams, finance, and monitoring & evaluation specialists to gather necessary information, ensuring accuracy and alignment with Oxfam’s values and strategic framework. You will play a vital part in sustaining and expanding Oxfam’s reach, enabling us to continue our vital work in areas such as climate change adaptation, food security, access to safe water, and empowering marginalized communities. Key Responsibilities
- Identify, research, and evaluate prospective funding opportunities from institutional donors (e.g., USAID, EU, FCDO), foundations, and corporate partners relevant to Oxfam Zimbabwe's strategic priorities.
- Lead the development and writing of high-quality, persuasive, and technically sound grant proposals, concept notes, and expressions of interest in close collaboration with program teams.
- Ensure all proposals adhere strictly to donor guidelines, formatting requirements, and submission deadlines.
- Develop and maintain a robust grants tracking system and calendar to monitor submission deadlines, reporting schedules, and donor communication.
- Collaborate with finance teams to develop accurate and compelling budget narratives that align with programmatic activities.
- Prepare comprehensive grant reports, ensuring timely submission and compliance with all donor requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of donor trends, priorities, and best practices in grant acquisition and management.
- Support the development of donor engagement strategies and cultivate relationships with potential funders.
- Contribute to the development of communication materials and success stories for donor outreach and visibility.
Required Skills
- Proven track record of success in securing significant institutional grants for non-profit organizations.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, with a strong ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
- Demonstrated understanding of the international development and humanitarian funding landscape.
- Advanced proficiency in proposal writing, editing, and technical narrative development.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with grants management software.
- Ability to work independently as a remote team member while maintaining strong collaboration with colleagues.
- Bachelor's degree in International Relations, Development Studies, Communications, English, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Experience working with donors such as USAID, EU, FCDO, UN agencies, and major foundations.
- Familiarity with the socio-economic and political context of Zimbabwe, particularly Matabeleland South.
- Experience in budget development and financial reporting for grant proposals.
- Knowledge of local languages prevalent in Matabeleland South Province is an asset.
