Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine service checks, maintenance, and repairs on a wide variety of vehicles.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults using advanced diagnostic equipment and logical problem-solving techniques.
  • Conduct thorough vehicle inspections and identify any issues requiring attention.
  • Repair and replace faulty parts, components, and systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, and steering.
  • Carry out vehicle testing post-repair to ensure all work is completed to the highest standards and manufacturer specifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of all work performed, parts used, and hours spent on each job.
  • Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations and workshop procedures at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with service advisors and customers regarding vehicle status, repair recommendations, and estimated costs.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, organised, and efficient workshop environment.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development programs to stay updated with automotive advancements.

Required Skills

  • NVQ Level 3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years demonstrable experience as a Vehicle Mechanic in an auto workshop setting.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify complex vehicle faults.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of vehicle systems and components (engine, gearbox, braking, suspension, etc.).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Full UK driving license with no more than 6 penalty points.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ATA (Automotive Technician Accreditation) qualification.
  • Experience with specific vehicle brands or advanced vehicle systems (e.g., hybrid/EV technology).
  • Familiarity with workshop management software.
  • MOT Tester certification (Class 4 & 7).
