Key Responsibilities
- Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including water supply lines, drainage systems, gas lines, and fixtures in residential and commercial properties.
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing systems and plan installations.
- Inspect and test plumbing systems for leaks, clogs, and other malfunctions, accurately diagnosing problems and recommending effective solutions.
- Perform pipe cutting, threading, bending, soldering, brazing, and gluing using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Ensure strict adherence to all local, state, and national plumbing codes (e.g., UPC, IPC) and safety regulations.
- Communicate professionally and clearly with clients to explain work performed, provide estimates, and offer maintenance advice.
- Supervise, train, and mentor apprentices or less experienced plumbers, fostering a collaborative and educational work environment.
- Maintain accurate records of all work completed, materials used, and hours logged for each project.
- Respond promptly to emergency service calls, demonstrating quick problem-solving and effective repair skills.
- Operate and maintain a variety of plumbing tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on plumbing systems to extend their lifespan and prevent future issues.
Required Skills
- Valid Journeyman Plumber License in Michigan.
- Minimum of 5 years of verifiable experience in plumbing, including residential and commercial projects.
- Comprehensive knowledge of plumbing codes, safety standards, and best practices.
- Proficiency in all aspects of pipefitting, including soldering, brazing, threading, and fusion welding.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities for complex plumbing issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused approach.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 10 or 30-hour construction safety certification.
- Backflow prevention device testing and repair certification.
- Experience with hydronic heating systems and radiant floor heating.
- Familiarity with PEX, copper, PVC, CPVC, and cast iron piping systems.
- Previous experience leading a small team or supervising apprentices.
- Proficiency with modern plumbing technologies and diagnostic tools.
