Key Responsibilities
- Provide personal care to clients, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility assistance.
- Assist clients with eating and hydration, ensuring dietary needs are met and documented.
- Monitor and accurately record vital signs, reporting any changes or concerns promptly to supervising nurses.
- Support clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs).
- Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for clients, adhering to infection control protocols.
- Document client care, observations, and interactions accurately and promptly in care records.
- Assist with ambulation, transfers, and positioning of clients using proper body mechanics and adaptive equipment.
- Engage clients in therapeutic and social activities as appropriate to promote well-being.
- Adhere to all facility policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with clients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members.
Required Skills
- Completion of a recognized Healthcare Aide program or equivalent provincial certification.
- Minimum of 1 year of recent, relevant experience as a Healthcare Aide.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (English proficiency required).
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Demonstrated compassion, patience, and unwavering respect for clients and their families.
- Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
- Understanding of client confidentiality and privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA/PIPEDA knowledge).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in various healthcare settings (e.g., long-term care, home care, acute care).
- Knowledge of an additional language, particularly French or other common community languages.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and digital documentation.
- Ability to adapt to changing care needs, work schedules, and diverse client populations.
- Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation (beneficial for potential community roles).
