Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and upgrade SQL Server instances across various environments.
  • Monitor database performance, implement proactive measures, and conduct routine performance tuning and optimization.
  • Perform comprehensive database backups, restores, and disaster recovery planning and regular testing.
  • Manage database security, including user permissions, roles, schema security, and auditing.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues, including connectivity, performance bottlenecks, and data integrity problems.
  • Implement and maintain high availability solutions such as AlwaysOn Availability Groups, Mirroring, and Log Shipping.
  • Develop, test, and implement robust T-SQL scripts for database maintenance, data manipulation, and reporting.
  • Collaborate closely with developers to optimize queries, stored procedures, and database schemas for optimal performance.
  • Document database systems, configurations, operational procedures, and best practices comprehensively.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide critical database support outside of regular business hours.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (4+ years) as a SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA).
  • Strong proficiency in SQL Server versions 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019.
  • Expertise in T-SQL development, optimization, and debugging complex queries and stored procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of database performance tuning and optimization techniques, including index management and query plan analysis.
  • Extensive experience with SQL Server High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions (AlwaysOn Availability Groups, clustering, log shipping, mirroring).
  • Solid understanding of database security best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with database backup and recovery strategies for various scenarios.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex database issues independently and effectively.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills for collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or other relevant SQL Server certifications.
  • Experience with cloud database platforms (Azure SQL Database, AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL).
  • Familiarity with PowerShell scripting for database automation and administrative tasks.
  • Knowledge of other database technologies (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle).
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
