Key Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and personal hygiene, always upholding their dignity and privacy.
- Provide support with mobility, transfers, and ambulation, utilizing appropriate assistive devices and techniques.
- Administer medication reminders and assist residents with self-administration of medications as per facility protocols.
- Monitor and accurately document residents' vital signs, intake/output, and any observed changes in physical, emotional, or cognitive status, reporting concerns promptly to nursing staff.
- Assist with meal service, ensuring dietary needs are met, and providing feeding assistance as required.
- Engage residents in social, recreational, and therapeutic activities to promote mental stimulation and physical well-being.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized living environment for residents, adhering to infection control standards.
- Respond to resident calls and emergencies in a timely and compassionate manner, providing immediate assistance and reassurance.
- Collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure comprehensive and individualized care plans.
- Provide emotional support and companionship, fostering a sense of belonging and community for all residents.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Resident Care Aide (RCA) certification or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Demonstrated proficiency in English, both verbal and written communication.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a compassionate and patient approach towards seniors.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Excellent observational and reporting skills.
- Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting, bending, standing for extended periods, and assisting with transfers.
- Basic computer literacy for electronic documentation.
- Clear criminal record check and up-to-date immunizations as per provincial health guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a long-term care facility, retirement home, or similar senior care environment.
- Fluency in French is considered a significant asset.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience working with individuals living with cognitive impairments, such as dementia or Alzheimer's disease.
- Familiarity with Quebec's healthcare regulations and standards of practice for Resident Care Aides.
