Job Description

FBC Bank is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Accountant to join our dynamic team in Mutare, Manicaland Province. This pivotal role requires an individual with a strong foundation in accounting principles, meticulous attention to detail, and a proactive approach to financial management within the banking sector. As a Senior Accountant, you will be instrumental in safeguarding the financial integrity of the bank, ensuring accuracy in all financial reporting, and contributing significantly to strategic financial planning.

Your responsibilities will span across various critical areas, including preparing comprehensive financial statements, reconciling complex accounts, managing general ledger operations, and ensuring strict adherence to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and local regulatory requirements. You will play a key role in the month-end and year-end closing processes, actively participating in internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations. This position offers a unique opportunity to apply your expertise in a fast-paced environment, contributing directly to the bank’s operational efficiency and compliance posture. You will also be expected to identify and implement process improvements, mentor junior staff, and collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to achieve collective organizational goals. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IFRS.
  • Manage general ledger accounts, journal entries, and reconciliations to ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and reported.
  • Oversee the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, monitoring actual performance against budgeted figures and analyzing variances.
  • Ensure compliance with all local tax regulations, banking laws, and other statutory requirements.
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audit processes, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff, fostering their professional development.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate financial data for operational decision-making.
  • Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analyses as required by management.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in an accounting role, preferably within the banking or financial services sector
  • In-depth knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle Financials) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, CA (Z))
