Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Film Editing Assistant to join our vibrant post-production team in Downtown Toronto. This is an unparalleled entry-level opportunity for individuals passionate about the craft of film editing and eager to kickstart their career in the media industry. As an integral part of our creative process, you will work closely with senior editors, gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced and supportive environment. You’ll be instrumental in preparing projects for editing, managing media assets, and ensuring a seamless workflow from ingest to final delivery. Key Responsibilities

  • Ingest, log, and organize raw footage and other media assets, ensuring proper naming conventions and metadata application.
  • Create initial string-outs, sync audio to video, and assist with basic assembly edits under the guidance of senior editors.
  • Manage and maintain project files, media databases, and archival systems, ensuring all assets are secure and easily accessible.
  • Prepare editing projects for color grading, sound mixing, and visual effects, including creating EDLs, XMLs, or AAFs.
  • Perform quality control checks on footage and edited sequences to identify and resolve any technical issues.
  • Assist with exporting various video formats according to specific delivery requirements and technical specifications.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of editing suites and equipment.
  • Conduct research for footage, music, sound effects, and other project-related elements as required.
  • Collaborate effectively with the post-production team, directors, and producers to ensure project vision is realized.
  • Stay updated with the latest editing software, hardware, and industry best practices.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in non-linear editing (NLE) software, particularly Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Fundamental understanding of video codecs, formats, resolutions, and frame rates.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to thrive in a team setting.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet tight deadlines.
  • A proactive attitude towards learning and problem-solving.
  • Basic computer literacy for file management and software operation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Film Production, Media Arts, Broadcasting, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with other NLEs such as Avid Media Composer or DaVinci Resolve.
  • Basic knowledge of motion graphics (e.g., Adobe After Effects) or audio editing (e.g., Adobe Audition).
  • Understanding of post-production workflows and pipelines.
  • Prior internship, volunteer, or personal project experience in a post-production or film environment.
