Job Description
This role is for a dedicated CDL Class B Driver who is ready to tackle local routes and contribute to the seamless flow of our operations in the Greentree, Dover area. As a Local Routes Driver, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of goods to various destinations within a defined geographical area, primarily serving our valued clients and partners.
Your day-to-day will involve operating and maintaining a Class B commercial vehicle, performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and ensuring all cargo is loaded, secured, and unloaded properly. Key Responsibilities
- Operate CDL Class B commercial vehicles safely and efficiently on local routes.
- Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, reporting any defects or issues promptly.
- Safely load, secure, and unload cargo, ensuring proper handling and delivery.
- Adhere strictly to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, company policies, and traffic laws.
- Maintain accurate electronic logs and delivery documentation, including manifests and invoices.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, warehouse staff, and customers regarding delivery schedules and potential issues.
- Represent the company professionally and courteously to clients and the public.
- Manage time effectively to ensure timely deliveries and pickups.
- Keep vehicles clean and in good working order.
- Report any accidents, incidents, or traffic violations immediately.
Required Skills
- Valid CDL Class B license with a clean driving record.
- Minimum 2 years (24 months) of commercial driving experience (Class B).
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and climbing as required.
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and safety procedures.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to operate various types of Class B vehicles and equipment.
- Basic mechanical aptitude to identify and report vehicle issues.
- Proficient in using electronic logging devices (ELDs) and GPS systems.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience with specific types of local delivery (e.g., LTL, beverage).
- Familiarity with the Greentree/Dover, DE geographical area.
- Ability to operate a forklift or pallet jack (certifications a plus).
- Hazmat endorsement (a plus, but not strictly required).
- Positive and proactive attitude.
