Job Description

Are you a hands-on individual with a passion for geology and a keen eye for detail? Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and proactive Geological Technician to join our growing team in Partick, Glasgow. This is an exciting full-time opportunity to contribute to a diverse range of geotechnical, environmental, and civil engineering projects across Scotland. As a key member of our field and laboratory operations, you will be instrumental in gathering critical data, performing essential tests, and providing support that underpins sound geological assessments and successful project delivery.

Your day-to-day will involve a mix of field-based work, conducting site investigations, collecting samples, and operating specialist equipment, alongside laboratory duties focused on sample preparation and analytical testing. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct geological and geotechnical site investigations, including trial pitting, boreholing, and in-situ testing.
  • Collect and accurately log soil, rock, and groundwater samples in accordance with industry standards.
  • Operate and maintain field equipment such as dynamic probes, environmental sensors, and hand augers.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests on geological samples, including moisture content, Atterberg limits, and particle size distribution.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate field notes, logs, and data records.
  • Assist geologists and engineers with data analysis, interpretation, and report preparation.
  • Adhere strictly to health and safety protocols and environmental regulations on all project sites.
  • Transport samples to the laboratory and ensure proper chain of custody.
  • Collaborate effectively with project teams, clients, and contractors.
  • Undertake general administrative tasks related to project documentation and equipment calibration.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of geological principles and field techniques.
  • Proficiency in collecting and logging geological samples.
  • Experience with basic geotechnical laboratory testing.
  • Ability to operate field equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Excellent data recording and organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
  • Valid UK driving license and willingness to travel to sites.
  • Commitment to health and safety best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working as a Geological Technician or similar role in a consultancy or construction environment.
  • Familiarity with environmental sampling protocols.
  • Knowledge of CAD software or GIS applications.
  • Relevant CSCS card or other site safety qualifications.
