Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a diligent and proactive Building Security Officer to join our team in Coventry Hills, Calgary. This pivotal role is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for all occupants and assets within our facilities. As a Building Security Officer, you will be the first line of defense, ensuring the protection of property, personnel, and information through vigilant monitoring, rapid response to incidents, and strict adherence to security protocols. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular patrols of the building premises, both internal and external, to prevent and detect signs of intrusion, damage, or unauthorized activity.
  • Monitor surveillance cameras and alarm systems, promptly responding to any suspicious activities or security breaches.
  • Control access to the facility, verifying credentials, issuing visitor passes, and maintaining accurate logs of all persons entering and exiting.
  • Respond effectively and efficiently to emergency situations, including medical emergencies, fire alarms, and security incidents, following established protocols.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate incident reports, daily activity logs, and other documentation as required.
  • Enforce company policies and procedures, ensuring compliance from all staff, visitors, and contractors.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and assistance to staff and visitors, answering inquiries and offering directions when needed.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into security incidents, gathering evidence and collaborating with local authorities when necessary.

Required Skills

  • Valid Alberta Security Guard Licence (or ability to obtain prior to start date)
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a security role (e.g., building, corporate, retail security)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to operate security equipment, including CCTV systems, access control systems, and two-way radios
  • Basic computer proficiency for report writing and data entry
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in security management or a related field is an asset
  • Experience with a variety of security software platforms
  • Knowledge of local bylaws and provincial regulations pertaining to security operations
  • Additional language proficiency is considered an asset
