Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough dental hygiene assessments, including charting, periodontal probing, and oral cancer screenings.
  • Perform scaling, root planing, and polishing to remove plaque, calculus, and stains.
  • Apply fluoride treatments, dental sealants, and administer local anaesthesia as required and permitted by GDC regulations.
  • Provide comprehensive oral hygiene instruction and education to patients of all ages, tailored to individual needs.
  • Collaborate effectively with dentists and other dental professionals to create holistic treatment plans.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, ensuring compliance with data protection and clinical governance.
  • Sterilise instruments and maintain strict infection control protocols in accordance with CQC standards.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in dental hygiene and participate in continuous professional development.
  • Assist in managing patient appointments and follow-up care, ensuring a smooth patient journey.

Required Skills

  • Registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) as a Dental Hygienist.
  • A minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience as a Dental Hygienist.
  • Demonstrable experience in delivering high-quality scaling, root planing, and preventive care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-centred approach.
  • Proficiency in using dental software and maintaining digital patient records.
  • Strong understanding of cross-infection control and health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SOE Exact or similar dental practice management software.
  • Additional qualifications in areas such as tooth whitening or facial aesthetics.
  • Evidence of recent continuing professional development (CPD) in relevant areas.
  • Experience in a mixed NHS/Private practice setting.
