Key Responsibilities
- Conduct engaging and informative tours of various attractions within St. Andrew and surrounding parishes, adapting content to suit diverse guest interests and backgrounds.
- Ensure the safety and comfort of all tour participants throughout the duration of the excursion.
- Share accurate historical, cultural, and natural facts and anecdotes about Jamaica, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the destination.
- Manage tour logistics, including meeting points, transportation coordination (if applicable), timing, and group pacing.
- Handle unexpected situations with professionalism and resourcefulness, providing excellent customer service at all times.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, representing the beauty and warmth of Jamaican hospitality.
- Stay updated on local events, new attractions, and relevant news to enhance tour experiences.
- Collect feedback from guests to continuously improve tour quality and participant satisfaction.
Required Skills
- Exceptional verbal communication and public speaking skills
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican history, culture, geography, and current events, particularly pertaining to St. Andrew
- Strong interpersonal skills with a friendly and engaging personality
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and handle emergencies calmly
- Proficiency in English; additional language skills are a significant advantage
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a tour guide in Jamaica or similar travel destinations
- Certification from a recognized tourism training institution (e.g., HEART/NSTA Trust Tourism Training)
- Fluency in a second language such as Spanish, French, German, or Mandarin
- Valid Jamaican driver's license with a clean driving record and experience operating passenger vehicles
- Specialized knowledge in areas like ecology, botany, art, or cuisine relevant to Jamaican tourism
