Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and technically proficient Desktop Support Specialist to join our thriving IT team in Melbourne. This full-time role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of our internal systems and providing exceptional technical support to all staff members. As our Desktop Support Specialist, you will be the first point of contact for all IT-related queries, ranging from hardware and software troubleshooting to network connectivity issues and user account management. You will play a vital role in maintaining high levels of user satisfaction and operational efficiency across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first and second-level technical support for hardware, software, and network issues via phone, email, and in-person.
  • Install, configure, and maintain desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices, and other peripheral equipment.
  • Troubleshoot operating system issues (Windows, macOS) and resolve application-specific problems.
  • Manage user accounts and permissions within Active Directory and other identity management systems.
  • Perform routine system checks, updates, and preventative maintenance to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Document all support activities, resolutions, and system configurations in the IT service desk ticketing system.
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding procedures, including hardware provisioning and account setup/deletion.
  • Collaborate with senior IT staff on larger projects, system upgrades, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Provide basic network troubleshooting, including Wi-Fi connectivity and VPN access.
  • Educate users on best practices for software usage and cybersecurity awareness.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a desktop support or IT helpdesk role.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting Windows 10/11 and macOS operating systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Experience with Active Directory user and group management.
  • Familiarity with hardware components, installation, and basic networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient and helpful demeanour.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant IT certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician, ITIL Foundation).
  • Experience with remote support tools and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of mobile device management (MDM) platforms.
  • Familiarity with VoIP systems and video conferencing solutions.
  • Basic understanding of scripting (e.g., PowerShell) for automation.
