Key Responsibilities

  • Greet customers warmly, provide exceptional service, and assist them in locating books and other merchandise.
  • Offer personalized book recommendations across various genres, demonstrating a broad knowledge of literature.
  • Process sales transactions accurately using our point-of-sale (POS) system and handle cash and card payments.
  • Receive, unpack, and shelve new inventory, ensuring proper organization and presentation.
  • Create engaging and attractive book displays to promote new releases, bestsellers, and thematic collections.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of the bookstore, including shelves, aisles, and common areas.
  • Assist with planning and execution of in-store events, such as author signings, book club meetings, and children's story times.
  • Answer phone inquiries and manage customer requests and special orders efficiently.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with stock-taking and reordering processes.
  • Handle customer complaints or issues with professionalism and escalate when necessary.
  • Stay updated on new book releases, literary trends, and author news.

Required Skills

  • Strong passion for books and reading across various genres.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven customer service experience, preferably in a retail setting.
  • Basic computer proficiency and experience with POS systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 15 kg, and climb ladders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; a degree in Literature, Library Science, or related field is a plus.
  • Previous experience working in a bookstore or library.
  • Familiarity with local literary communities and authors.
  • Proficiency in Portuguese (official language of Mozambique) and English.
  • Experience with visual merchandising or display creation.
