Key Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding, with sensitivity and respect for their dignity.
  • Provide companionship and engage clients in stimulating activities like reading, conversation, light exercise, or hobbies to enhance their well-being.
  • Assist with light household tasks, including tidying up living areas, laundry, and meal preparation according to dietary needs and preferences.
  • Monitor and accurately report any changes in clients' health, behavior, or well-being to supervisory staff promptly and thoroughly.
  • Support clients with mobility, transfers, and ambulation using proper techniques and equipment as needed, ensuring their safety.
  • Administer medication reminders as directed, ensuring clients take their prescribed medications on schedule.
  • Accompany clients to appointments or outings, providing safe transportation and supervision, acting as a reliable and reassuring presence.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for clients, adhering to all health and safety protocols.
  • Foster a respectful, empathetic, and supportive relationship with clients and their families, building trust and comfort.

Required Skills

  • Genuine empathy and compassion for others, with a strong desire to provide meaningful care.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with clients and colleagues.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and strong organizational abilities to manage daily tasks and schedules effectively.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively as part of a collaborative care team.
  • Basic understanding of hygiene and safety principles, committed to maintaining a healthy environment.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods, as required for client support.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada, with appropriate documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, demonstrating foundational academic achievement.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification, providing essential emergency response skills.
  • Some experience in a caregiving role, whether formal (e.g., volunteer) or informal (e.g., caring for family members), is a valuable asset.
  • Access to reliable transportation (personal vehicle or public transit) to ensure punctuality and flexibility.
  • Ability to speak a second language common in Vancouver (e.g., Cantonese, Mandarin, Punjabi) is an asset, enhancing communication with diverse clients.
