Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility assistance, with dignity and respect.
  • Administer medication reminders and assist with self-administration as per care plan and provincial regulations.
  • Prepare nutritious meals tailored to dietary restrictions and preferences, and assist with feeding when necessary.
  • Perform light housekeeping, laundry, and ensure a safe, clean, and organized living environment for clients.
  • Engage clients in stimulating activities such as conversation, reading, walks, games, and social outings to promote well-being.
  • Provide companionship and emotional support, fostering a sense of belonging and reducing loneliness and isolation.
  • Accompany clients to appointments and outings, ensuring their safety, comfort, and timely arrival.
  • Monitor and accurately document client's health status, behaviors, and any changes, reporting concerns promptly to supervisors.
  • Develop and maintain professional, respectful relationships with clients, their families, and other care team members.
  • Assist with grocery shopping and other essential errands as required to support client independence.
  • Adhere strictly to all individualized care plans, safety protocols, and company policies and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of direct experience in senior care, home health, or a similar support role.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong command of English (both written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage time effectively.
  • Proficiency in basic meal preparation and light household management.
  • Proven empathy, patience, adaptability, and a genuine passion for assisting seniors.
  • Successful completion of a clean criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.
  • Physical ability to lift and assist with client transfers as required (up to 50 lbs).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate or diploma in Health Care Assistant (HCA) or equivalent recognized by the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
  • Experience working with clients with cognitive impairments, such as dementia or Alzheimer's disease.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for client transportation.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and services available for seniors in North Vancouver.
