Key Responsibilities

  • Research, investigate, and report on local news stories relevant to the Frankston and wider Melbourne community.
  • Develop and maintain a strong network of contacts including community leaders, government officials, emergency services, and local residents.
  • Conduct interviews with sources, ensuring accuracy and balance in reporting.
  • Write compelling, accurate, and ethical news articles, features, and reports for various platforms (print, online).
  • Adhere to strict deadlines and newsroom standards for quality and factual integrity.
  • Utilize multimedia tools (photography, video) to enhance storytelling when required.
  • Attend community events, press conferences, and court hearings as necessary.
  • Collaborate effectively with editors, photographers, and other team members.
  • Pitch original story ideas and follow leads generated by public interest.
  • Stay informed on current events, local politics, and community issues.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a Reporter or Journalist, demonstrating strong newsgathering and writing skills.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal, with impeccable grammar and spelling.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise, and engaging copy under pressure.
  • Strong interviewing and investigative research abilities.
  • Sound understanding of journalistic ethics and media law.
  • Proficiency in digital publishing tools and content management systems.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience covering local government or community news.
  • Proficiency in photography and basic video editing.
  • Familiarity with the Frankston and surrounding Melbourne areas.
