Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teacher (Classroom Support) to join our dynamic team at Welkom Gimnasium. This vital role involves assisting lead teachers in creating an effective and engaging learning environment for our students. The Classroom Support Teacher will play a crucial part in facilitating daily classroom operations, providing individualized attention to students, and helping to maintain a positive and orderly educational setting. You will work closely with lead teachers to implement lesson plans, prepare instructional materials, and support student engagement across various subjects. Key Responsibilities
- Assist the lead teacher in planning and implementing daily lessons and activities.
 - Provide one-on-one or small-group support to students requiring additional assistance in academic tasks.
 - Help prepare, organize, and manage classroom materials, resources, and learning stations.
 - Supervise students during classroom activities, independent work, and non-instructional times (e.g., breaks, transitions).
 - Support student behavior management strategies as directed by the lead teacher, ensuring a safe and conducive learning atmosphere.
 - Assist with the assessment and grading of student assignments and homework under the guidance of the lead teacher.
 - Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging classroom environment that promotes student participation and self-esteem.
 - Communicate effectively with lead teachers regarding student progress, challenges, and achievements.
 - Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities as required.
 - Ensure the classroom is tidy and organized at the end of the school day.
 
Required Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Afrikaans.
 - Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with students, colleagues, and parents.
 - Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children.
 - Strong organizational and time management abilities.
 - Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
 - Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, email).

Preferred Qualifications
- A relevant teaching assistant certificate, diploma, or educational qualification.
 - At least 1 year of experience working with children in an educational, childcare, or youth development setting.
 - First Aid and CPR certification.
 - Knowledge of specific learning support strategies or special educational needs.
