Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures on patients of all ages with skill and compassion.
- Verify patient identity and ensure correct labeling of specimens, minimizing errors.
- Maintain strict adherence to infection control, health, and safety policies and procedures.
- Prepare and organize blood collection equipment, ensuring all supplies are sterile and readily available.
- Provide clear and concise instructions to patients before, during, and after blood collection.
- Monitor patient reactions during procedures and provide immediate assistance if necessary.
- Process and transport specimens accurately and promptly to the laboratory.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
- Adhere to quality assurance standards for specimen collection and handling.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development as required.
Required Skills
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification or equivalent.
- Proven experience in venipuncture and capillary blood collection techniques.
- Excellent knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology related to phlebotomy.
- Strong understanding of aseptic techniques and infection control procedures.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in specimen collection and labeling.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-first approach.
- Proficiency in maintaining accurate patient records.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of professional phlebotomy experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
- Experience with various patient populations, including pediatric and geriatric.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to a healthcare environment.
