Job Description

Career.zycto is urgently seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our dedicated healthcare team in Altrincham, Manchester. As a Phlebotomist, you will be an integral part of our clinical operations, working closely with medical staff and patients from diverse backgrounds. Beyond the technical aspects, this role demands excellent communication skills to clearly explain procedures, answer patient questions, and ensure a comfortable experience. You will manage specimen labeling, processing, and transportation, guaranteeing sample integrity from collection to laboratory delivery. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures on patients of all ages with skill and compassion.
  • Verify patient identity and ensure correct labeling of specimens, minimizing errors.
  • Maintain strict adherence to infection control, health, and safety policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and organize blood collection equipment, ensuring all supplies are sterile and readily available.
  • Provide clear and concise instructions to patients before, during, and after blood collection.
  • Monitor patient reactions during procedures and provide immediate assistance if necessary.
  • Process and transport specimens accurately and promptly to the laboratory.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
  • Adhere to quality assurance standards for specimen collection and handling.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development as required.

Required Skills

  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in venipuncture and capillary blood collection techniques.
  • Excellent knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology related to phlebotomy.
  • Strong understanding of aseptic techniques and infection control procedures.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in specimen collection and labeling.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-first approach.
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate patient records.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of professional phlebotomy experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
  • Experience with various patient populations, including pediatric and geriatric.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to a healthcare environment.
