Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine and non-routine water sampling from various sources (e.g., municipal systems, natural bodies, industrial discharges).
  • Perform a wide range of chemical, physical, and microbiological analyses on water samples using standard laboratory procedures and instrumentation.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and field instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Accurately record, manage, and interpret data, preparing detailed technical reports and summaries.
  • Ensure strict adherence to quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) protocols and health and safety guidelines.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of water quality monitoring programs.
  • Collaborate with senior technicians and environmental scientists on project work and data interpretation.
  • Respond to and investigate water quality concerns or incidents as required.
  • Manage inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents.

Required Skills

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a water quality testing or environmental laboratory setting.
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques and instrumentation (e.g., spectrophotometers, pH meters, dissolved oxygen meters).
  • Strong understanding of water quality parameters, environmental regulations, and sampling protocols.
  • Excellent data management, analysis, and report writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in both field and laboratory environments.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems).
  • Knowledge of New Brunswick's environmental legislation and guidelines.
  • Certifications in water treatment, wastewater operations, or environmental sampling.
  • Experience with advanced analytical techniques (e.g., GC/MS, ICP-MS).
  • Familiarity with GIS software for mapping and data visualization.
