Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator to join our expanding team in Aigburth, Liverpool. This is a full-time opportunity for individuals who are passionate about precision, efficiency, and maintaining the highest standards of operational safety. As a vital member of our field crew, you will be instrumental in executing diverse construction, earthmoving, and material handling projects across the Liverpool region. We are looking for an operator with a proven track record, capable of handling a range of heavy machinery with expert proficiency and a keen eye for detail.

In this role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various heavy equipment, including but not limited to excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, graders, and dump trucks. Your day will begin with thorough pre-operation inspections to ensure all machinery is in optimal working condition, followed by executing tasks such as site preparation, trenching, grading, material loading, and compacting according to project specifications and engineering plans. Maintaining an acute awareness of your surroundings, adhering to strict safety protocols, and effectively communicating with your team will be paramount to success. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, and dump trucks safely and efficiently.
  • Perform pre-operation and post-operation inspections on machinery, identifying and reporting any defects or necessary repairs.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and site-specific procedures.
  • Dig trenches, backfill excavations, compact earth, grade surfaces, and load materials as per project specifications.
  • Monitor equipment performance, ensuring proper fuel and fluid levels, and carrying out minor maintenance tasks.
  • Communicate effectively with site supervisors, ground crew, and other operators to ensure coordinated and safe operations.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs of equipment usage, maintenance, and work completed.
  • Assist with other labourer duties on site when heavy equipment is not required, as directed by the supervisor.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience operating a variety of heavy construction equipment (e.g., excavators, loaders, dozers).
  • Strong understanding of equipment mechanics and maintenance.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, grade stakes, and other construction documentation.
  • Commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Physical fitness and stamina to perform demanding tasks in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Plant Operations or equivalent certification.
  • CPCS or NPORS Red/Blue Card for relevant categories of plant machinery.
  • Experience with GPS-enabled grading systems.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Experience working on large-scale civil engineering or construction projects.
