Job Description

We are seeking a highly vigilant and proactive Security Monitoring Analyst to join a dynamic cybersecurity team in Ilkley, Leeds. As a Security Monitoring Analyst, you will be at the forefront of defending against cyber threats, working within a fast-paced environment where your analytical skills and technical expertise will be crucial. This role involves continuous monitoring of security systems, analyzing alerts, and responding to potential security incidents to ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of our clients’ information assets. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform continuous security monitoring and analysis of security events from various sources including SIEM, firewalls, IDPS, endpoint security solutions, and other security logs.
  • Identify, investigate, and respond to security incidents, alerts, and anomalous activities in a timely and effective manner.
  • Conduct initial triage and incident validation, escalating complex or critical incidents to senior analysts or incident response teams.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of security monitoring use cases, alerts, and correlation rules within SIEM platforms.
  • Participate in threat hunting activities to proactively identify advanced persistent threats (APTs) and sophisticated attacks.
  • Document security incidents, investigations, and remediation steps accurately and comprehensively.
  • Collaborate with IT operations, network teams, and application development teams to implement and verify security controls.
  • Stay current with the latest cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, attack techniques, and industry best practices.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of security operational procedures and playbooks.
  • Provide regular reporting on security monitoring activities and incident statistics.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a Security Operations Center (SOC) or similar security monitoring role.
  • Strong understanding of SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, LogRhythm, Elastic Stack).
  • Proficiency in analyzing security logs, network traffic, and system events to detect threats.
  • Familiarity with various attack vectors, methodologies, and common cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., MITRE ATT&CK).
  • Experience with intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), firewalls, and endpoint detection and response (EDR) tools.
  • Knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux) and networking protocols (TCP/IP).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CySA+, GSEC, CEH, or equivalent.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation and data analysis.
  • Understanding of cloud security concepts (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Familiarity with vulnerability management and penetration testing concepts.
