Job Description
Career.zycto is seeking a passionate and dedicated Community Health Worker to join our vibrant team serving communities within and around Nairobi National Park. This pivotal role involves being the bridge between healthcare services and community members, particularly those in underserved areas. As a Community Health Worker, you will be on the front lines, providing essential health education, facilitating access to care, and advocating for the needs of individuals and families. You will play a crucial role in promoting preventive health practices, managing chronic diseases, and linking residents to vital social and medical resources. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct household visits and community outreach to identify health needs and provide health education on topics such as maternal and child health, nutrition, hygiene, communicable diseases, and non-communicable diseases.
- Assist community members in accessing healthcare services, including scheduling appointments, arranging transportation, and navigating complex health systems.
- Provide culturally appropriate health information and resources, ensuring understanding and addressing language barriers.
- Advocate for community needs and communicate feedback to healthcare providers and program managers to improve service delivery.
- Collect and record data related to community health activities, client interactions, and health outcomes in a timely and accurate manner.
- Facilitate health screenings and refer individuals to appropriate medical, social, and psychological services.
- Develop and maintain strong, trusting relationships with community members, leaders, and local organizations.
- Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and continuous professional development activities.
- Assist in the development and distribution of health promotion materials.
Required Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Swahili.
- Strong interpersonal and empathy skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly.
- Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity to diverse populations.
- Ability to work independently in community settings and manage time effectively.
- Basic computer literacy for data entry and communication.
- Problem-solving skills and resourcefulness in challenging situations.
- Knowledge of basic public health principles and local health resources.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Community Health, Social Work, Nursing, or a related field.
- Previous experience working as a Community Health Worker or in a similar community outreach role.
- Familiarity with the specific communities around Nairobi National Park.
- Experience with health data collection tools and methodologies.
- Ability to ride a motorbike or bicycle for community visits (if applicable and relevant to the area).
