Career.zycto is actively seeking an experienced and highly skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our dynamic mining operations team in the Loughborough, Leicester area. Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, front-end loaders, articulated dump trucks, and drills in a safe and efficient manner.
- Perform daily pre-shift inspections, routine checks, and basic maintenance on machinery, reporting any faults or issues promptly.
- Adhere strictly to all site health and safety regulations, company policies, and environmental guidelines.
- Load, unload, and transport materials (ore, waste rock, aggregates) according to operational plans and supervisor instructions.
- Accurately grade, excavate, and backfill areas as required by project specifications.
- Monitor equipment performance, fuel levels, and fluid levels during operations.
- Communicate effectively with ground crew, other operators, and supervisors via two-way radio.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure equipment is shut down and secured appropriately at the end of each shift.
- Participate in safety meetings and training sessions as required.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) operating various heavy mining or quarrying equipment.
- Valid heavy equipment operator certifications and licenses relevant to the UK.
- Strong understanding and adherence to health and safety protocols in an industrial environment.
- Ability to perform basic equipment maintenance checks and troubleshoot minor issues.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and manual dexterity.
- Physical stamina and ability to work in varying weather conditions and demanding environments.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specific Caterpillar, Komatsu, or Volvo mining equipment.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plant Operations or a related field.
- Experience in an open-pit mining or large-scale quarrying environment.
- Demonstrated experience with GPS guidance systems for equipment operation.
