Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly motivated, diligent, and detail-oriented Health Information Technician to join our growing team in the vibrant community of Quissanga, Cabo Delgado Province. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain patient health records, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with all applicable regulations (e.g., patient privacy laws, data security standards).
  • Abstract and assign appropriate medical codes (e.g., ICD-10, CPT) for diagnoses and procedures, ensuring proper billing and statistical reporting.
  • Process patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, updating health information systems promptly and accurately.
  • Retrieve, file, and distribute medical records as requested by authorized personnel, adhering to strict confidentiality protocols.
  • Perform regular audits of health records to identify and correct discrepancies or missing information.
  • Assist healthcare providers with documentation requirements and ensure adherence to documentation standards.
  • Utilize and troubleshoot electronic health record (EHR) systems effectively, providing support to users as needed.
  • Protect the security of medical records and patient information at all times, implementing and upholding privacy policies.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and continuous professional development to stay current with HIM best practices and regulatory changes.
  • Generate reports related to health information data for administrative, clinical, and research purposes.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare data privacy regulations (e.g., local equivalent of HIPAA, GDPR principles).
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and health information management software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient information.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively in a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to task management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Health Information Management (e.g., RHIT, RHIA or local equivalent).
  • Prior experience in a hospital or clinical setting in Cabo Delgado Province.
  • Familiarity with medical coding systems (ICD-10, CPT) and their application.
  • Bilingualism (e.g., Portuguese and a local language like Makhuwa, Mwani, or Swahili) is a significant asset.
  • Experience with data abstraction and analysis for reporting.
