Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking a compassionate and dedicated Family Support Worker to join our vital team on Bazaruto Island. This full-time role offers a unique opportunity to make a profound difference in the lives of families and children within the local community. As a Family Support Worker, you will be at the forefront of providing crucial assistance, guidance, and advocacy to families facing a diverse range of challenges. This includes everything from navigating complex social services to offering emotional support during difficult times, all while promoting family stability and child well-being. We are looking for an individual with a strong commitment to empowering families, fostering positive relationships, and ensuring children thrive in safe and supportive environments. You will work autonomously, managing a caseload of families, but also collaboratively with a network of community partners, local agencies, and internal team members to deliver holistic and integrated support plans. This role requires empathy, resilience, excellent communication skills, and an unwavering dedication to the principles of family-centered care. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of families' needs, strengths, and challenges to develop individualized support plans.
  • Provide direct emotional, practical, and informational support to families, including advocacy and crisis intervention.
  • Facilitate access to essential community resources, such as healthcare, education, housing, employment, and social services.
  • Develop and deliver workshops or group sessions on parenting skills, child development, budgeting, and other relevant topics.
  • Monitor and review family progress against established goals, adjusting support plans as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date client records and case notes in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Collaborate effectively with other professionals, including social workers, educators, health practitioners, and law enforcement.
  • Identify and report any safeguarding concerns for children or vulnerable adults in accordance with statutory guidelines.
  • Participate in regular supervision, team meetings, and continuous professional development activities.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in family support, social work, community development, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of child development, family dynamics, and common challenges faced by vulnerable families.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build rapport with diverse individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage a caseload, and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written Portuguese and Changana/Gitonga (local languages) is essential.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines.
  • Valid Mozambican driver's license and willingness to travel within Bazaruto Island and surrounding areas as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Community Development, or a related human services field.
  • Experience working with multicultural populations and an understanding of local cultural contexts.
  • Familiarity with the social services landscape and resources available in Inhambane Province.
  • First aid and CPR certification.
