Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy-duty trucks (e.g., articulated trucks, rigid trucks, lorries) safely and efficiently, strictly adhering to all Kenyan traffic laws and national road safety regulations.
- Transport various goods to and from specified collection and delivery locations within Embu County and other designated regions across Kenya, ensuring on-time delivery schedules are met.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, ensuring all mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in optimal working order before and after each journey.
- Maintain accurate daily logs, including detailed vehicle mileage, fuel consumption, precise delivery records, and prompt reporting of any incidents or delays encountered.
- Load and unload cargo safely and efficiently, utilizing appropriate handling techniques and securing loads properly to prevent damage or shifting during transit.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with dispatch, clients, warehouse personnel, and other team members regarding delivery schedules, potential delays, and any operational issues.
- Perform minor roadside repairs and routine maintenance checks, such as tire pressure, fluid levels, and light functionality, reporting any major defects or malfunctions promptly to management.
- Ensure strict compliance with all company safety policies and procedures, including practicing defensive driving techniques and adherence to stipulated rest periods.
- Represent Career.zycto professionally while on duty, demonstrating excellent customer service and a courteous demeanor when interacting with clients and the public.
- Adhere to all relevant health, safety, and environmental standards pertinent to road transportation and cargo handling.
Required Skills
- Valid Class CE/C1 driving license with a clean driving record and at least 3 years of continuous professional driving experience.
- Minimum of 3 years (36 months) of verifiable commercial truck driving experience.
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of Kenyan traffic laws, national road networks, and regional routes, particularly within Embu County.
- Proficiency in conducting comprehensive pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, identifying potential mechanical issues.
- Strong understanding of basic vehicle maintenance and minor repair capabilities to address common roadside issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of clear verbal and written reporting.
- Ability to accurately complete daily logs, delivery manifests, and other required reports meticulously.
- Physical fitness to safely handle loading/unloading tasks, manage heavy lifting, and endure long hours on the road.
- High level of integrity, reliability, and responsibility in managing valuable cargo.
- Basic first aid knowledge and a strong commitment to safety protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate in Transport & Logistics Management or a related technical field.
- Experience with GPS navigation systems, route optimization software, and digital logbooks.
- Familiarity with various types of cargo, including perishables or hazardous materials, and advanced securement techniques.
- Extensive knowledge of local routes and geography within Embu County and surrounding regions.
- Hazardous materials endorsement (ADR Certificate) if applicable to company operations.
