Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Full-Time Machinist to join our expanding manufacturing team in Headingley, Leeds. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for operating, setting up, and maintaining various machine tools to produce precision parts and components. Your work will directly contribute to the quality and efficiency of our production line, ensuring that all products meet our stringent specifications and industry standards. As a Machinist, you will interpret technical drawings and blueprints, select appropriate tooling, and perform precise measurements using a variety of inspection equipment. You will be expected to troubleshoot and resolve issues during machining operations, always striving for optimal material utilization and waste reduction. Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and maintain conventional and CNC machine tools (lathes, milling machines, grinders, etc.) to produce precision parts.
  • Read and interpret engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine machining operations.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust controls as necessary.
  • Perform quality checks using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Conduct routine machine maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to troubleshoot issues and optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain accurate production records and complete required documentation.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Machinist in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong proficiency in setting up and operating conventional and/or CNC machine tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Expertise in using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
  • Solid understanding of machining principles, materials, and tooling.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and best practices in a workshop environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Machining, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with CAM software and programming CNC machines.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Prior experience working with various exotic materials.
  • First Aid certification.
