Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our growing team in North Holmwood, Dorking. This pivotal role involves the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of a diverse range of heavy-duty vehicles, machinery, and industrial equipment. From large construction machinery and agricultural vehicles to commercial trucks and specialised plant equipment, you will be the cornerstone of our operational efficiency, ensuring all assets perform optimally and safely.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, electrical diagnostics, diesel engines, transmissions, and braking systems. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using advanced diagnostic tools.
  • Execute complex repairs and overhauls on engines, transmissions, braking systems, and other critical components.
  • Conduct thorough inspections to identify potential problems and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate service records, documenting all inspections, maintenance, and repair work.
  • Order and manage parts inventory necessary for repairs and maintenance.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior technicians when required.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with industry advancements.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic or Plant Mechanic.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic software and tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Valid UK driving licence.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
  • Experience with specific heavy equipment brands (e.g., Caterpillar, JCB, Volvo, Komatsu).
  • Certification in specific areas such as welding or refrigeration.
  • Forklift operator licence.
  • First Aid certification.
