Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented Agribusiness Officer to join our dynamic team in Kileleshwa, Nairobi. This pivotal role requires an individual with a deep understanding of agricultural value chains, market dynamics, and a passion for empowering smallholder farmers and agribusinesses. As an Agribusiness Officer, you will be instrumental in driving the implementation of our agricultural development programs, ensuring their success through effective technical assistance, market linkage facilitation, and capacity building initiatives.
Your primary focus will be on strengthening the resilience and profitability of agricultural enterprises within our target communities. This involves conducting comprehensive market assessments, identifying viable opportunities for farmers, and assisting them in adopting best agricultural practices and innovative technologies. You will work closely with farmer groups, cooperatives, and other stakeholders to foster strong partnerships that promote sustainable production and access to lucrative markets. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough market research and value chain analyses to identify opportunities and constraints for agricultural products.
- Develop and deliver training programs and technical assistance to smallholder farmers and agribusinesses on modern farming techniques, post-harvest handling, and business management.
- Facilitate market linkages between farmers, buyers, processors, and other value chain actors to enhance access to profitable markets.
- Provide guidance on financial literacy, access to credit, and investment opportunities for agricultural enterprises.
- Monitor and evaluate project activities, collecting data, analyzing results, and preparing comprehensive reports on progress and impact.
- Collaborate with internal teams, government agencies, NGOs, and community leaders to ensure project synergy and successful implementation.
- Identify and promote the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices and sustainable resource management.
- Support the development of business plans and strategies for farmer groups and cooperatives.
- Represent the organization at relevant forums, workshops, and meetings.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Agronomy, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in agribusiness development, agricultural extension, or value chain analysis.
- Demonstrated knowledge of agricultural markets, products, and supply chains in Kenya.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in English and Swahili.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data analysis tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, often in challenging field environments.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively within target regions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant agricultural discipline.
- Experience with GIS software for agricultural mapping and analysis.
- Familiarity with grant writing and proposal development.
- Previous experience working with international development organizations or community-based projects.
- Knowledge of local dialects relevant to agricultural communities in Kenya.
