Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate cost plans, feasibility studies, and detailed bills of quantities for various construction projects.
- Manage and administer contract documents, including variations, claims, and extensions of time, ensuring compliance with contractual terms.
- Conduct comprehensive tender analysis, evaluation, and negotiation with contractors and suppliers to achieve optimal value.
- Prepare interim valuations, payment recommendations, and final accounts for submission to clients.
- Implement robust cost control measures, monitor project expenditures, and provide regular financial reports.
- Identify, assess, and manage commercial risks associated with projects, proposing mitigation strategies.
- Perform value engineering to optimize project costs without compromising quality or design intent.
- Liaise effectively with clients, consultants, contractors, and project teams to ensure smooth project progression.
- Ensure adherence to all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal processes and procedures.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience as a Quantity Surveyor in a reputable firm.
- Proficiency in construction estimating software (e.g., BuildSoft, Candy, CostX).
- Expert-level command of Microsoft Excel for data analysis and financial modelling.
- Thorough understanding of FIDIC, JCT, and local Kenyan construction contract forms.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Membership with the Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Kenya (IQSK) or RICS accreditation.
- Experience in high-rise commercial, residential, or infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software and methodologies.
- Certification in Project Management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2).
- Postgraduate qualification in Quantity Surveying or Construction Law.
