Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, systems, and fixtures in commercial, industrial, and residential buildings.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  • Adhere to all relevant safety procedures, electrical codes, and regulations (e.g., BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations).
  • Read blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to determine the method and sequence of assembly.
  • Perform general electrical maintenance and preventative checks.
  • Maintain detailed records of work performed, materials used, and time spent.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and management regarding project status and technical issues.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to apprentices or junior electricians where applicable.

Required Skills

  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installations or equivalent qualification.
  • City & Guilds 2382 (18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations).
  • Proven experience in electrical installation, maintenance, and fault finding.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and best practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Full UK Driving License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing qualification.
  • Experience with fire alarm and security systems.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy systems (e.g., solar PV).
  • First Aid certification.
  • Experience working in a variety of environments (commercial, industrial, domestic).
