Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate a school bus safely and efficiently on assigned routes, adhering to strict schedules.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers, enforcing safety rules and managing student behaviour.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus, reporting any mechanical issues promptly.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy bus interior, ensuring a comfortable environment for students.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, school staff, and management.
  • Adhere to all provincial traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations.
  • Assist students with special needs, including proper use of ramps and securement systems, as required.
  • Attend mandatory safety meetings, training sessions, and professional development programs.

Required Skills

  • Valid Alberta Class 2 Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement (or ability to obtain).
  • Clean Driver's Abstract (less than 5 demerits) and criminal record check.
  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to traffic laws and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with children and parents.
  • Ability to work split shifts (early mornings and afternoons) during the school year.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a professional driver, particularly school bus driving.
  • Knowledge of Airdrie and surrounding area roadways.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
