Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections of building systems, fixtures, and grounds to identify maintenance needs and potential hazards.
- Perform general repairs and preventative maintenance on plumbing, electrical systems (basic fault finding), carpentry, painting, and general fabric of the building.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies, diagnosing issues and implementing effective solutions.
- Undertake minor refurbishment projects, including preparing surfaces, painting, plastering, and installing fixtures.
- Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, completed repairs, and inventory of tools and supplies.
- Liaise with external contractors for specialised repairs or services when necessary, overseeing their work to ensure quality and adherence to schedules.
- Support the upkeep of outdoor areas, including basic landscaping, litter control, and pathway maintenance.
- Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Building Maintenance Operative or similar role.
- Solid understanding of general maintenance processes and methods.
- Proficiency in basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting skills.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve common maintenance issues effectively.
- Strong health and safety awareness, with knowledge of relevant regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid UK driving license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant trade qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 2 in Building Maintenance, City & Guilds).
- Experience with HVAC systems or other specialist building services.
- First Aid certification.
