Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and experienced Industrial Safety Officer to join our team, working on-site in Kooringal, Wagga Wagga. This crucial role is instrumental in fostering a robust safety culture, ensuring compliance with all relevant occupational health and safety (OHS) legislation, and mitigating workplace hazards across our client sites. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs, conducting comprehensive risk assessments, and providing expert guidance to management and staff. As an Industrial Safety Officer, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment. Your day-to-day will involve a mix of field inspections, policy development, training, and incident investigation. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive OHS policies, procedures, and safety management systems in line with Australian WHS legislation.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards.
  • Perform detailed risk assessments, develop control measures, and follow up on corrective actions and recommendations.
  • Investigate all workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses, identify root causes, and recommend preventive strategies and controls.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to management and employees on all OHS-related matters, including legal requirements and best practices.
  • Organise and deliver OHS training sessions and inductions for new employees and ongoing refresher training for existing staff.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and OHS performance metrics.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive OHS reports to management and regulatory bodies as required.
  • Promote a positive safety culture through awareness campaigns, effective communication, and active employee engagement initiatives.
  • Stay updated with changes in OHS legislation, standards, and industry best practices to ensure continuous improvement.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as an Industrial Safety Officer or similar role, preferably in an industrial, manufacturing, or construction setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of Australian OHS legislation, regulations, and codes of practice (e.g., Work Health and Safety Act 2011, WHS Regulations).
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies, hazard identification, and control principles.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and educate at all levels.
  • Ability to conduct thorough incident investigations and generate detailed, analytical reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, manage priorities effectively, and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
  • Formal qualifications in OHS (e.g., Certificate IV in WHS, Diploma of WHS).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience with safety management software systems and data analysis.
  • Experience in training and developing OHS programs tailored to specific workplace needs.
