Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently load and unload passenger luggage, cargo, and mail onto and off aircraft, adhering to airline and airport procedures.
- Operate specialized airport equipment, including tugs, belt loaders, and other vehicles, after receiving appropriate training.
- Sort and transport baggage to designated areas, including baggage claim, transfer zones, and aircraft stands.
- Perform visual inspections of baggage and equipment for damage or security concerns, reporting any issues promptly.
- Adhere strictly to all airport security regulations, safety protocols, and company policies to ensure a safe working environment.
- Collaborate effectively with airline crews, ramp agents, and other ground staff to ensure on-time departures and arrivals.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area on the ramp and within baggage handling facilities.
- Work in various weather conditions, including rain, cold, and heat, as required by the outdoor nature of the role.
- Assist with other ground handling duties as needed to support overall airport operations.
Required Skills
- Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy luggage (up to 23kg/50lbs) repeatedly throughout a shift.
- Strong work ethic and reliability, with excellent punctuality and attendance.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Commitment to safety and strict adherence to procedures.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Airport Restricted Zone Pass, which includes a criminal record check and 5-year verifiable work history.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a physically demanding role, such as warehousing, logistics, or general labor.
- Basic understanding of airport operations and security procedures.
- A valid UK driving license (desirable, but not essential for all roles).
- Experience operating manual and powered equipment.
