Key Responsibilities
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements for materials and layouts.
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join wood materials, laminates, and other building materials using a variety of hand and power tools.
- Install structures and fixtures such as windows, doors, frames, flooring, trim, staircases, and cabinetry with precision.
- Construct, erect, install, and repair scaffolding, framework, wall panels, and other temporary or permanent structures.
- Inspect and repair damaged wooden structures and fixtures, ensuring structural integrity and aesthetic quality.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Collaborate effectively with other construction professionals, including electricians, plumbers, and general contractors, to ensure seamless project execution.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently, performing regular maintenance checks on equipment.
- Estimate material requirements and costs, ensuring efficient use of resources and minimizing waste.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings.
- Extensive knowledge of various carpentry techniques, wood types, and building materials.
- Skilled in the safe and efficient use of hand and power tools common to the carpentry trade (e.g., saws, drills, routers).
- Strong mathematical skills for accurate measurement, calculation, and estimation.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and a keen eye for detail and precision.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform demanding tasks, often at heights or in confined spaces.
- Commitment to safety protocols and procedures, with a good understanding of site health and safety.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Carpentry and Joinery or equivalent qualification.
- Valid CSCS Card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) is highly desirable.
- First Aid certification.
- Proven experience with a variety of residential and commercial construction and renovation projects.
- Full UK driving license with access to a reliable vehicle.
