Career.zycto is actively seeking a dedicated and experienced Livestock Caretaker to join a dynamic farm operation located in the heart of Quatre Bornes, Plaines Wilhems District. This pivotal role involves the daily care and well-being of our diverse animal population, ensuring their health, comfort, and productivity. As a Livestock Caretaker, you will be instrumental in the smooth running of farm activities, contributing directly to the success of our agricultural endeavors. Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily feeding and watering of all livestock according to established schedules and dietary requirements.
- Monitor animal health and behavior, promptly identifying and reporting any signs of illness, injury, or distress to farm management.
- Clean and maintain livestock enclosures, barns, and feeding areas to ensure hygienic and comfortable living conditions.
- Assist with animal handling, movement, and restraint for health checks, vaccinations, and other veterinary procedures.
- Participate in breeding programs, including monitoring animals for signs of estrus, assisting with births, and caring for young animals.
- Maintain accurate daily records of feeding, medication, animal movements, and health observations.
- Operate and maintain basic farm equipment, including feed mixers, pressure washers, and small tractors, as required.
- Assist with general farm maintenance tasks, such as fencing repair, waste management, and facility upkeep.
- Adhere strictly to all farm safety protocols and animal welfare guidelines.
- Collaborate effectively with other farm staff and management to ensure efficient farm operations.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in livestock handling and care (e.g., cattle, poultry, goats, sheep).
- Strong understanding of animal behavior and welfare principles.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Basic numeracy and literacy for record-keeping.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- A certificate or diploma in agriculture, animal husbandry, or a related field.
- Experience with specific farm machinery and equipment operation.
- Basic knowledge of animal first aid and common farm animal ailments.
- Valid driving license (Mauritius).
