Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and experienced Water Treatment Plant Operator to join a critical team in the Paget Industrial Area, Mackay. As a Water Treatment Plant Operator, you will be at the forefront of managing complex water purification processes, operating sophisticated equipment, and conducting routine analyses to maintain stringent water quality standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor advanced water treatment plant equipment, including pumps, motors, valves, and chemical feed systems, to ensure efficient and effective purification processes.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and analyses on water samples to monitor quality parameters, ensuring compliance with local, state, and national regulations.
  • Adjust chemical dosages (e.g., coagulants, disinfectants, pH adjusters) based on laboratory results and operational needs to maintain optimal treatment effectiveness.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the plant and associated infrastructure to identify and report any malfunctions, equipment failures, or operational anomalies.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and assist with corrective maintenance tasks as required, ensuring plant reliability and longevity.
  • Maintain accurate operational logs, records, and reports, documenting treatment processes, chemical inventories, and maintenance activities.
  • Respond to alarms and emergency situations promptly, initiating appropriate corrective actions to prevent service interruptions or water quality issues.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies to ensure a safe working environment and protect public health.
  • Collaborate with team members, supervisors, and other departments to optimize plant performance and share knowledge and best practices.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Water Treatment Plant Operator or in a similar industrial operational role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of water treatment processes, including coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection.
  • Proficiency in performing basic laboratory tests and interpreting water quality data.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills for plant equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for reporting and documentation.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate III or IV in Water Industry Operations (or equivalent qualification).
  • Experience with SCADA systems and other process control software.
  • Knowledge of relevant Australian water quality standards and environmental regulations.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Confined Space and Working at Heights training.
