Job Description
Are you a proactive and customer-focused IT professional looking to make a significant impact in a fast-paced retail environment? Shoprite Holdings Ltd. is seeking a dedicated Full-Time IT Support Technician to join our team in Tembisa, Gauteng. In this critical role, you will be the first line of defense for all technology-related challenges within our store operations, ensuring seamless functionality and minimal downtime for our Point of Sale (POS) systems, network infrastructure, and various end-user devices.
This position is ideal for someone passionate about problem-solving, with a strong technical aptitude and an excellent ability to communicate complex IT issues in an understandable way. You will be instrumental in maintaining the technological backbone that enables us to serve our customers efficiently every day. Beyond troubleshooting, you will contribute to the proactive maintenance of systems, assist with new hardware/software deployments, and provide essential training and support to our store staff. Key Responsibilities
- Provide first-level and second-level technical support for all IT-related issues experienced by store staff, including hardware, software, network, and peripheral devices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve problems related to Point of Sale (POS) systems, scanners, payment terminals, printers, and other retail-specific equipment.
- Install, configure, and maintain computer hardware, operating systems, and applications.
- Perform routine system checks, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs on IT equipment.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights in accordance with company policies.
- Assist with network connectivity issues, including Wi-Fi access points and basic LAN troubleshooting.
- Document all support activities, resolutions, and technical procedures accurately in the IT service management system.
- Escalate complex issues to senior IT specialists or relevant external vendors when necessary.
- Provide clear, concise, and user-friendly instructions and training to staff on IT systems and best practices.
- Participate in the deployment of new IT hardware and software rollouts within the store.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of IT assets.
Required Skills
- CompTIA A+ or equivalent certification
- Minimum 1 year of experience in an IT support role
- Proficiency in troubleshooting Windows operating systems (Windows 10/11)
- Experience with hardware diagnostics and repair for PCs, laptops, and peripherals
- Basic understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and Wi-Fi configurations
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a methodical approach to troubleshooting
- Customer-centric mindset with a focus on providing exceptional service
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- National Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
- Experience supporting POS (Point of Sale) systems in a retail environment
- Knowledge of ITIL foundational principles
- Experience with remote desktop support tools
- Knowledge of active directory basic administration
