Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our team, focusing on ensuring the utmost safety within a bustling industrial estate environment in Naggo Head, Portmore. This pivotal role involves the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health and safety management systems, adhering to national and international standards. As a professional, you will be the driving force behind a safe working culture, responsible for identifying potential hazards, assessing risks, and implementing effective control measures across multiple industrial operations. You will engage proactively with management, employees, and external stakeholders to champion best practices and maintain compliance with all relevant legislation and company policies.
The successful candidate will be tasked with conducting regular site inspections, audits, and safety walkthroughs, meticulously documenting findings and tracking corrective actions. You will lead incident investigations, analyzing root causes and recommending preventative strategies to avoid recurrence. A key aspect of this role is fostering a strong safety-first mentality through comprehensive training programs, educating staff on emergency procedures, safe work practices, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust Health and Safety (H&S) policies and procedures in line with national and international standards within the industrial estate.
- Conduct regular H&S audits, inspections, and risk assessments, identifying potential hazards and implementing corrective and preventative actions.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending measures to prevent recurrence.
- Organize and deliver comprehensive H&S training sessions for all employees, covering topics such as emergency preparedness, safe work practices, and equipment handling.
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant Jamaican H&S legislation, OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001 standards, and company policies.
- Manage the provision, maintenance, and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across various operations.
- Advise management on H&S-related issues, including legislative changes, emerging risks, and best practice recommendations.
- Maintain accurate records of H&S data, incidents, training, and audits, producing regular performance reports.
- Lead and facilitate H&S committee meetings, promoting active employee participation in safety initiatives.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans, conducting regular drills and ensuring preparedness for all potential scenarios.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of Jamaican H&S legislation and regulations.
- Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective H&S training programs.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with ISO 45001 implementation and maintenance.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience working with diverse teams in a multi-tenant industrial setting.
