Career.zycto is delighted to be seeking a dedicated and experienced Caretaker to join our team, working across various school or estate settings in the vibrant Hoylake Promenade, Liverpool area. This is a pivotal role that ensures the smooth and safe operation of our clients’ properties, directly contributing to a positive and productive environment for students, staff, residents, or visitors. As a Caretaker, you will be the guardian of the premises, responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and functionality across all buildings and grounds.
Your day-to-day will be diverse, encompassing everything from routine maintenance tasks and security checks to responding to urgent repair needs and assisting with event setups. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily patrols and inspections of the premises, identifying and addressing maintenance issues promptly.
- Perform general DIY tasks, including minor repairs to fixtures, fittings, furniture, and equipment.
- Oversee and manage heating, lighting, and ventilation systems, ensuring optimal functionality and energy efficiency.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across all indoor and outdoor areas, including litter picking and waste management.
- Implement and monitor security procedures, including locking and unlocking premises, responding to alarms, and ensuring building integrity.
- Manage deliveries, store supplies, and maintain accurate inventory records for tools and materials.
- Assist with the setup and clear-down of rooms for meetings, events, and activities.
- Conduct risk assessments and adhere strictly to health and safety regulations, reporting any hazards immediately.
- Liaise with external contractors for specialist repairs and maintenance, overseeing their work to completion.
- Maintain external grounds, including basic gardening tasks, pathway clearing, and ensuring safe access.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a caretaker, facilities assistant, or in a similar maintenance role.
- Strong practical skills in general repairs and maintenance (plumbing, basic electrical, carpentry, painting).
- Excellent understanding and commitment to health and safety regulations.
- Ability to work independently, taking initiative and managing time effectively.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interacting courteously with various stakeholders.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Basic IT literacy for record-keeping and communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant certifications in health and safety (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH).
- First Aid qualification.
- Experience working within a school or educational establishment.
- Full UK driving license and access to own transport.
